More About Adventure Time

The more I talk about it, the more surprised I am that so many people have not watched this show. Our whole family enjoys watching Adventure Time, and I highly recommend it.

If you want to know more about it, The Onion AV Club has a superb synopsis of the show and a summary of some important episodes.

Also, the first season is streaming on Netflix, so it's harmless to give it a shot, right?

What Time is It?

That's right, this year our family will represent the main characters from Cartoon Network's Adventure Time!
Thankfully, the show is extremely popular, so it was quite easy to find the pieces we needed for our costumes. We are pretty much done and ready for our pictures, party, and trick-or-treating.

Here is our Adventure Time lineup:

Making My Shoes

Luna Sandals. Awesome. In addition to providing terrible solutions to the wreath, the internet also had nothing to offer me for cost-effective, decent-looking Greek-style shoes for this costume. I wanted a pair of sandals with a minimal sole and leather straps wrapped around my ankles.

Luckily, I had been researching barefoot and minimalist running, and at some point found the Luna Sandals website. I was really intrigued by the fact that their classic model had a do-it-yourself option, and decided that I might even wear them after Halloween if I took that approach. (spoiler: I still wear them occasionally!)

So I chose my materials and ordered the DIY Sandal Making Kit.

Building the Wreath

Because I couldn't find a wreath that I liked for my Apollo costume, I decided to make it myself. I picked up the following supplies at a local hobby store:
  • Silk leaves (that you would use in a silk flower arrangement)
  • Golden wire
  • Gold spray paint
I also stopped by Wal-Mart to get a couple of different metal headbands to try. I was that guy who got odd looks for buying a couple different headbands from the girl's section.

Seems like I have a pattern going here

Once again, I started writing about our costumes, but never finished. Our Greek Mythology costumes turned out great last year, and we have some excellent pictures. I'll finish up shortly and get them posted.

In other news, we've already started getting our costumes ready for this year...
